Place Me Like a Seal Over Your Heart

I'm going to be straight with you.
I've had a hard time lately thinking there was any point in believing in marriage. Understandable I think, considering the all out disaster that mine became.
But.
I hate self-deceit.
I don't like to believe in things only because I've been hurt or blessed. I want to believe in them because they are true. So. I'm drawing on memories, on my friends, on things that have to be true because the good guys gotta win.

Why Marriage is Worth Believing In:
By Angela Christine Stewart (wounded, but hopeful).

1. Because you get to wake up at night and here the sound of breathing beside you.
2. Because you have memories with someone else that no one else in the world shares with you.
3. Because you get to see what a selfish bastard you really are.
4. Because you get to see how beautiful you really are.
5. Because the smell of someone else's skin is burned into your brain.
6. Babies.
7. Because even though half of the time it is shit and you feel like hell, you would rather feel like shit and hell than live without it.
8. Because commitment is inherently good.
9. Because you get to go grocery shopping with someone else.
10. Because you get to share the rent.
11. Because you fill in each other's insufficiencies.
12. Because you get to learn that you can love someone even when you see all of their ugliness.
13. Because you get to be loved, even when you are ugly.
14. Because you get to learn and evolve with someone else, because of someone else.
15. Because there is someone to hear you when you say, "Hey, I've been thinking about..."
16. Because you get to be someone's favorite person in the whole, huge, people-filled world.
17. Because it's good practice to live a life of sacrifice and compromise.
18. Because you get to find joy in giving joy.
19. Because you get to be an image of profound love.
20. Because God says so. So there.
21. Because you can take turns cleaning the toilet.
