Back in the same school as yesterday -
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
Albert Einstein
"Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves."
Albert Einstein
That Albert, he can kiss me anytime.
...speaking of kissing, I got to supervise a Jr. High dance today for work! Good times. I was so excited when I found out because I was sure it would take me right back to the glory of my adolescence, and it did, sort of. Mostly because of how uncomfortable I was. The teacher in the cable knit sweater was hitting on me and I was terrified he was going to ask me to dance.
Please insert long, awkward pauses in between each exchange.
Cable knit guy: I'm a musician.
Me: Oh ya.
C.G: Ya. And a perpetual song writer.
Me: Oh.
C.G: Everything to me is auditory.
Me: Uh huh.
C.G: When I was in charge of the music last dance it was way better.
Me: Oh ya.
C.K: I tried to teach those boys on the side how to pick up girls, but they won't listen to me. I told them to stand real close to them and then make their move.
Me: Oh ya. (He's touching my arm. I can feel his breath on my face. At least it's minty. Please dear God, don't let him ask me to dance.)
Silence.
We walk away from each other.
He keeps coming up to me during the dance and I pretend not to see him and walk the other way. I don't know what else to do. I'm pretty sure I'm thirteen again.
The dance ends and the bright lights come up to reveal a gym floor covered in candy wrappers, torn paper and the safety of the everyday world of classrooms, hallways and adulthood.
At least in this, my second adolescence, I get to drive home and not wait for my dad to pick me up.
